Take a Dip!

Now that the weather is warmer, it’s time for me to rekindle the flames with a long lost love: swimming.
Swimming is the ultimate workout for me. I don’t have to set foot in a gym, and can’t get too overheated or sweaty because you’re already in the water. Whenever you need a breather, all you have to do is stop swimming, and immerse yourself in the pool for a few seconds.
This summer pastime is actually quite good for you. It’s an excellent head to toe work out and burns 700 calories an hour! If you’re going to incorporate swimming into your workout regime, you may want to take it slow at first. Do two full laps (back and forth equals one), pause to catch your breath, and repeat three times. Try to practice two or three times a week. When swimming 300 yards feels easy, increase your total distance by up to 10 percent per week. Pretty soon, you’ll be up there with the pros.
Swimming is also a great escape. I love the way the water feels as it rushes past my body, and I’m completely at ease. That’s why I don’t really like the winter months all that much; it takes me away from the water!
What pastime do you like to use to work out, instead of going to the gym?
